His Shahjahan Regency has just been wrapped up and Srijit Mukherji is already looking forward to his next. The director is pairing up with Prosenjit Chatterjee one more time for a film on the disappearance on Netaji. There’s raging controversy over the Indian nationalist leader’s death on 18 August 1945 after his overloaded Japanese plane crashed in Japanese-occupied Formosa (Taiwan).
“He boarded the plane on this date in 1945. Reason, why we wanted to announce the film today,” said the director. While Netaji’s death is shrouded in mystery, there are several questions about the identity of Gumnami Baba who surfaced later. The Faizabad ascetic was believed to be Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose by many. “Our next film is about Gumnami Baba,” said Srijit. The film is produced by SVF and will release in 2019.
