Ever since Srijit Mukherji announced his dream project ‘Gumnaami’, a film based on Gumnami Baba, he has been in the centre of controversy. Even Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grand nephew Chandra Kumar Bose took a dig at the national award winning director in public. However, it didn’t dump Srijit’s spirit and he insisted time and again the film will be made despite all the odds and criticisms.
And on Monday, the ‘Vinci Da’ director took to his Twitter handle to share some pictures from the mahurat of ‘Gumnaami’ where you can see both Srijit and Prosenjit Chatterjee who will play the titular role.
Srijit captioned the picture: “May Mahakaal be with us!”
Interestingly, you can see Anirban Bhattacharya too in the frame. Srijit had earlier mentioned beside Prosenjit there will be another male lead. And now it seems that second male lead is none other than Anirban.
The upcoming thriller is set to explore the myth of the mysterious sadhu often addressed as Gumnaami Baba whom many believed to be Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose himself in disguise.
There are so many rumors and conspiracy theories on Netaji’s return to India after his supposed death in Taihoku plane crash. Srijit’s upcoming film’s plot is one of those rumours which apparently set the crux of the film. The film draws inspiration from Anuj Dhar and Chandrachur Ghosh’s bestselling book CONUNDRUM, Subhas Bose’s Life After Death.
Produced by SVF, ‘Gumnaami’ is expected to release in 2020.
