Director Debaloy Bhattacharya whose last film ‘Bidaay Byomkesh’ was lapped up by the cine buffs in 2018 has started shooting for his next film. Titled ‘Dracula Sir’, the film will see Mimi Chakraborty and Anirban Bhattacharya sharing the screen for the first time. It’s also Mimi’s first film after joining politics.
And now, popular actor Bidipta Chakraborty who played a crucial role in Indraadip Dasgupta’s directorial debut ‘Kedara’ and is also a part of his next ‘Bismillah’ has joined the cast and she has already started shooting her parts in the film. Bidipta will be seen as Sabita who falls for the titular character ‘Dracula Sir’.
“This film is my search for the Bengali Dracula without the castle, who is out to create his own myth. Mimi has a melancholia and a sadness that has never been explored. The character of Manjari from 1971 who drives the narrative silently needs the same. I was a fan of Pupe (a role essayed previously by Mimi) from Gaaner Opare days, and this character of Manjari has a shed of Pupe’s poise. It’s by sheer luck that Mimi decided a comeback and I was casting for Manjari. And she got the character at a blink! Also, this being her comeback after a sabbatical makes it a double bonanza,” an excited Debaloy shared with us while speaking about his film.
Produced by SVF, ‘Dracula Sir’ is the story of a primary school teacher who develops a pair of canine teeth earning the nickname, Dracula Sir. As destiny pushes him towards becoming the vampire he has always been referred to, he has a story to tell from 1971 that makes his journey a tale of finding love and revenge.
