The 2nd song from the film Gumnaami – ‘Kadam Kadam’ becomes the new marching anthem of the season
Kolkata, 22nd September 2019 – The 2nd song from Srijit Mukherji’s directorial venture Gumnaami – ‘Kadam Kadam’, was inaugurated in a public ceremony at the Netaji Bhawan Metro Station – adjoining Netaji’s ancestral property at Netaji Bhawan. The song had an inaugural screening in the presence of director Srijit Mukherji, actors Prosenjit Chatterjee, Anirban Bhattacharya & Tnusree Chakraborty, music director Indraadip Dasgupta & Ishan Mitra who has lent his voice to this patriotic number.
‘Kadam Kadam’ was considered the marching anthem of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army (INA). On special request of Subhas Bose, INA general Captain Ram Singh Thakuri composed this patriotic number as the marching song of the army. The song has been rearranged by music director Indraadip Dasgupta in the film to showcase the quest of investigative journalist (played by talented actor Anirban Bhattacharya) as he researches the disappearance of British India’s greatest freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose (essayed by Prosenjit Chatterjee). ‘Kadam Kadam’ is presently the regimental quick march of the Indian National Army
Gumnaami is a film based on the Mukherjee Commission Hearings which happened from 1999 to 2005 where the three theories about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s death were discussed and debated. It is a dramatization of the hearings where an investigative journalist supporting the ‘Gumnaami Baba theory’ locks horns with the official lawyer who supports the ‘plane-crash theory’. In their clash, the ‘Death in Russia theory’ also comes up.
Speaking about the song ‘Kadam Kadam’ director Srijit Mukherji said, “Kadam Kadam’ is a song that I have been hearing since my childhood and has always instilled a sense of pride for my country. In Gumnaami the song has been used to pulsate the quest for Netaji’s disappearance ”
The Bengali version of Gumnaami starring Prosenjit Chatterjee, Anirban Bhattacharya, Tnusree Chakraborty and others is scheduled to release on 2nd October 2019 Nationally, followed by Hindi version release on 11th October. The music used in the film is the original soundtrack by INA & D.L.Roy and has been rearranged by National Award Winning music director Indraadip Dasgupta.
