We already know Srijit Mukherji is making a biopic on Swapna Barman, who became India’s first ever heptathlete to win a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games. Sohini Sarkar will be seen Swapna and she has already started her rigorous workshop to prepare for the challenging role.
Not only Sohini, this is something new for Srijit as well, his first ever sports biopic. We asked the national award-winning director how are the preparations going for the film and Srijit gave a prompt reply saying there’s no such hurry to make the biopic.
“Frankly speaking, there are only a few authentic sports biopics in Indian cinema, and on the given the utmost preparation and dedication, I must rate ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ very highly. Sometimes, Farhan Akhtar literally came so close to Milkha Singh’s unbelievable timing. He had to become an athlete of that level to do justice to the character. But it’s possible only in Bollywood because of the financial support. What I have told Sohini (Sohini Sarkar who will essay Swapna Barman’s character) is that I can arrange for her training sessions at SAI or get Swapna’s coach Subhash to guide her in the workshop, which he is already doing. I will only start shooting when Sohini is completely prepared. There’s no hurry,” said Srijit whose latest offering ‘Vinci Da’ has hit the box office bull’s eye.
