Vinci Da song ‘Shanto Hou’ made interesting with Riddhi Sen’s visuals and paradoxical lyrics

In the trailer, there was a glimpse of Sen’s character as a cold blooded murderer and it is shown here too.

‘Shanto Hou’ song from Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming thriller Vinci Da (2019) introduces Riddhi Sen, who plays a cameo role in the film. The soothing number composed and sung by Anupam Roy, places Sen’s character in the most paradoxical manner against its lyrics.

The song initially features the lovers played by Rudranil Ghosh and Sohini Sarkar in its visuals. The lyrics written in simple Bengali, convey the calls of a listener, who urges a tired soul to express with an open heart so that restlessness can recede and calmness take over. In the visuals, Ghosh appears to be that soul, who was revealed as a struggling artiste in the trailer earlier, while Sarkar plays his listener.

After a beautiful, long drone shot of the couple running on a bridge, the visual cuts to Sen’s character in what looks like a courtroom. He is equally calm after being admitted to a rehabilitation facility. He is often immersed in scribbling on the walls.

In the trailer, there was a glimpse of Sen’s character as a cold blooded murderer and it is shown here too. In this portion, Roy’s lyrics emphasize upon calmly staying true to one’s own identity. It states that people who write the epitaph of a dead soul, are mostly unaware of his or her life and hence, life is to be lived fully.

It is interesting the way Mukherji juxtaposes these words of deep philosophy with a criminal mind, generating suspense around Sen’s character. It is even more striking as the words ‘Shanto Hou’ which translate to ‘calm down’, are placed in the sequence of Sen killing someone brutally.

The song turns out to be appealing because of its lyrics and the composition of its visuals more than the rendition and ordinary tune.

Vinci Da is slated for release on 12 April.
