After the success of the first two short films named Lift and Shoshibhushan in the psychological thriller series Paranoia, Hoichoi, the digital platform for Bengali content, is back with the third short in the series with Pocketmaar which has started streaming from 30 December.
Pocketmaar, directed by Annapurna Basu and produced by Roadshow Films, starring actress Saayoni Ghosh in the lead, delicately handles the psychological disorder that the protagonist is suffering from.
Each story in the series focuses on different parts of psychological disorders connecting with the theme paranoia. Pocketmaar revolves around Srishti, the lead character, and a lie that she spelt out fearing boss’s disappointment about her habit of coming late to work. There will be multiple other short films under the Paranoia series.
Stuck in the morning rush, Srishti uncomfortably stands in a crowded bus. Her colleague informs her over the phone that their boss is annoyed with her being late again. Waiting for her change, she scans around only to see a suspicious looking man staring at her weirdly. Gripping her bag tightly, she gets off and rushes to work. She agitatedly starts telling her boss about a pickpocket she encountered resulting into her missing the bus and getting late.
She repeats the same story to her colleagues. In the evening the news reveals to them that indeed a pickpocket had been killed in a public brawl. Shocked by this Srishti gets extremely squeamish thinking how did her lie become an actual incident. Has she been hallucinating?
