Muscat-born model Sanjana Banerjee to make debut in Pathikrit Basu’s Fidaa

The newcomer will be seen opposite Yash Dasgupta in the romantic drama. Fidaa is scheduled to be released on 15 June this year.

Muscat-born model Sanjana Banerjee is all set to make her Bengali film debut in Pathikrit Basu’s upcoming romantic drama Fidaa, opposite Yash Dasgupta.

Passionate about acting since childhood, Banerjee feels fortunate to be a part of the film. “I am on cloud nine at the moment. I feel extremely fortunate to have got my first break opposite Yash,” she said.

While Dasgupta will reportedly be seen in two different avatars, as an impulsive and emotional youth with anger management issues and as a successful yet complacent man, Banerjee will be essaying the role of his calm and composed lady love.

“I play Khushi, a bubbly college girl, who believes in love but is practical at the same time. This romantic film shows her journey from a young college girl to a mature woman. So, there is a lot of scope for me to show my acting prowess,” she said to Calcutta Times, a daily supplement to the newspaper Times of India.

Banerjee also shared her experience on the first day of the film’s shoot. “In my first shot, which happened on Tuesday (27 March), I had to explain what love is all about to a friend. I had goosebumps when I heard the word ‘action’. But I told myself that I have to do it!”

Actor Dasgupta is also happy to work with Bannerjee. “Sanjana is diligent. She is trying her best. We all are treating her like a new born baby — with utmost patience as she will need time to learn the nitty-gritty of acting [sic]. There are few retakes with her in the same frame but what I like about her is her persistence,” he said.

“Fidaa is a coming-of-age love story. The audience will be able to relate to it. Ishan (played by Dasgupta) is arrogant while Khushi (Bannerjee) is calm and composed. Will their love story materialize or will ego come in between is what the film is all about,” Dasgupta explained.

The film is scheduled to be released on 15 June this year.
