Srijit’s next film on college romance, first poster of ‘X=Prem’ creates a buzz

Srijit Mukherji’s next ‘X=Prem’ is a futuristic love story and it explains how the power of love can solve any and all adversaries in one’s life. Interestingly, to strike a balance between the story and the storytelling, Srijit is making the film in black-and-white. The film stars Arjun Chakrabarty, Madhurima Basak, Anindya Sengupta and Shruti Das in the lead. Although Srijit and Arjun have joined hands for the first time, interestingly, the director had made a guest appearance in Arjun’s 2012 hit ‘Bapi Bari Jaa’.

And now, the official poster of ‘X=Prem’ is here ahead of its theatrical release on May 13. The film’s shoot started in July last year and Srijit shot it in and around Kolkata.

“It’s my first entirely black-and-white film. Earlier there were black-and-white portions in Ek Je Chhilo Raja, Chotushkone and Gumnaami. Usually black-and-white is done based on the timeline of a story, for period pieces and flashbacks. In Ek Je Chhilo Raja, I used the reverse principle. I used colour for flashback and black-and-white for the present. As a metaphor, I felt it went very well with the black-and-white nature of truth which was being debated in court. In X= Prem, it is purely a stylistic decision, completely aesthetic. I thought it would look very good visually. It would complement the story and the storytelling. It is a futuristic college romance so there are various timelines, there is a lot of mystery… lot of freshness to the cast, to the story. Black-and-white has its own charm, the visuals have their own magic, it is very exciting for me. Also it is my first venture with Subhankar (DoP) and we thought let’s make it special,” Srijit had earlier shared while explaining why he has made this film in black and white.

Meanwhile, Srijit has recently wrapped up the shoot of his next Feluda series. He is also expected to start shooting for his next ‘Loho Gouranger Naam Re’ from June-July.
