While his latest offering ‘Gumnaami’ continues to rule the Bengali box office, Srijit Mukherji’s directorial debut ‘Autograph’ completes 9 years today (October 14) and it leaves the National Award-winning director emotional. He even took to his Twitter handle to remember the happy anniversary.
The ensemble cast of ‘Autograph’ includes Prosenjit Chatterjee along with Nandana Sen and Indraneil Sengupta in lead roles. This film was Sriijit Mukherji’s directorial debut and he made heads turn with his first outing.
Many believe it was a tribute to Satyajit Ray’s 1966 masterpiece ‘Nayak (actor)’ which had the iconic Bengali matinee idol Uttam Kumar in the lead. Prosenjit Chatterjee was awarded with the 2010 MIAAC Best Actor honour for his outstanding acting in this film.
‘Autograph’ also paved the way for a great association between Srijit and Prosenjit. The timing couldn’t have been better as Prosenjit was then in between a transition period of shifting his focus from commercial potboilers to more art-house films with author backed roles.
