Mon Jaane Na is a dark love story

    Mar 21, 2019 Publication : epaper.timesgroup

A loving couple, a deadly secret and a deadly addiction — that’s the story of well-known Bollywood screenwriter Shagufta Rafique’s debut film, Mon Jaane Na. It revolves around the vicious circle of drug addiction and its detrimental impact on the life of a young couple, played by Yash and Mimi Chakraborty.

The film portrays the harsh reality of drug abuse on an individual who ends up losing her sanity and touch with reality. Pari (Mimi) becomes a slave to the substance that controls her and her emotions. It also gives the message that timely rehabilitation and unconditional love and support from near and dear ones can help one overcome addiction.

“The film deals with drug abuse, prostitution, women trafficking — social evils that plague our society behind the walls, while we go on with our daily lives. After a long time, a new-age Bengali commercial film is highlighting these issues. It also has a subtle love story and a beautiful score,” said Mimi.

The actress is also making her singing debut in this film. “After Keno Je Toke became an instant hit, I was asked to sing a reprised version of the song. I usually sing for myself, but I will be lying if I say people don’t compliment me for my singing. I’m very happy with the response to my debut song,” she shared.

Talking about her character in the film, Mimi said, “Pari is a beautiful character with multiple shades. The transformation from a simple girl next door to a drug addict was not easy. It gave me a chance to show my acting prowess. Yash plays my husband, Aamir Nawaz, and the film documents the highs and lows of our life. It is for the audience to find out whether love wins or the situations dictate their lives.”

Meanwhile, Yash, whose character belongs to a lower middle-class background, said, “Aamir is a taxi driver who apparently also does something else to survive. It is a realistic character and I loved playing it. Drug abuse and crime form the backdrop of this relationship tale,” said Yash.

Mon Jaane Na, produced by SVF, releases today.
