Srijit Mukherji’s Vinci Da is about an obsessed makeup artiste who’s struggling to make his own place in the industry on his own talent and capabilities. Although his father was a renowned makeup artist, he, somehow, failed to make his mark and got no chance anywhere even though he was highly talented.
When his life was going haywire, Adi Bose entered his life and changed it forever. The film stars Rudranil Ghosh, Ritwick Chakraborty, Sohini Sarkar and Anirban Bhattacharya in the lead. According to Srijit and Rudranil (who plays Vinci Da in the film), certain parts of Vinci Da has been inspired by
Somnath Kundu’s life and his work in the industry. He is one of the most promising makeup artistes in this industry and he is the third generation of his family working in the Bengali film industry.
He has worked in films like Joddha, Zulfiqar, Har Har Byomkesh, Dhananjoy, Yeti Obhijaan, Uma and Byomkesh Gowtro to name a few. In Ek Je Chhilo Raja,
Somnath gave Jisshu U Sengupta three different looks through prosthetic makeup, which was appreciated by many. In the storyline of Vinci Da, makeup plays an integral role and that has been shaped by the hands of Somnath.
“I watched the film at the premiere and then again on Sunday with my family. It feels great when a filmmaker makes a film on your life, rather the struggles of my life. I had tears when I watched the film yesterday as all my past memories came flooding back,” said Somnath, who is at present busy with the look set of Prosenjit Chatterjee for Srijit’s Gumnami Baba. He added, “We just did a demo look for Bumbada and we are working on it till we zero in on the look. Also, Srijit’s Kakababu is in the pipeline. That apart I am also working for Pavel’s Asur (tentatively titled) where Jeet and Abir Chatterjee are probably playing the lead. Dev has approached me for doing special makeup on an actor in Hobu Chandra Raja Gobu Chandra Mantri,” said Kundu.
