Sequels rarely work, but Bengali movies like ‘Bijoya’, the films in Goyenda Shabor and Byomkesh Bakshi franchise have broken the jinx for good and thoroughly entertained us to eagerly wait for some more films to follow the suit! We’ve binge watched a number of Tollywood movies in recent times and we are only wondering whether a sequel to them will ever see the daylight, but hoping for one doesn’t cause any harm, right? So here’s the list of some of the recent Bengali films we wish there’s a sequel made.
The story revolves around a haunted village school which will be shut down following some paranormal activities inside the school campus. To save the school, the Head master reaches out to a team of paranormal investigators who write their thrilling encounters in a magazine ‘Shob Bhooturey’. However, the current owner of the magazine Aniket (Abir Chatterjee) doesn’t believe in supernatural forces and decides to close the magazine. His late father was a paranormal investigator who visited so many haunted places but it doesn’t attract Aniket. Despite all these, he agrees to investigate the paranormal activities in the village school just to stop the school from being shut down. The editor of the magazine (Supriyo Dutta) and a mysterious girl Nandini (Sohini Sarkar) who claims to have the power to contact the ghosts accompany her. Will they be able to solve the mystery? That’s what forms the crux of the film.
After winning hearts as a young detective Byomkesh Bakshi in films such as ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’ (2015), ‘Abar Byomkesh’ (2004), ‘Byomkesh Phire Elo’ (2014), ‘Har Har Byomkesh’ (2015) and ‘Byomkesh Parbo’ (2016), Abir Chatterjee plays the roles of both, a 70-year-old detective, and his grandson Satyaki in Debaloy Bhattacharya’s thriller ‘Bidaay Byomkesh’. It focuses on the famous sleuth’s personal journey through his past investigations. In the spin-off, Abir also essays out Satyaki Bose, the grandson of Byomkesh. Debaloy has originally introduced Satyaki’s character and it has no link to Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s literary works. Many believe this film doesn’t mark the end of Byomkesh saga as young Satyaki marks a new beginning which continues his grandfather’s legacy….Click here to read the full story
