In Dhrubo Banerjee’s latest offering ‘Durgeshgorer Guptodhon’ Abir Chatterjee reprises the role of Professor Subarna Sen aka Sona da along with Arjun Chakraborty as Abir and Ishha Saha playing Jhinuk just like they did in ‘Guptodhoner Sondhane’.
Abir has played a wide range of characters over the years. He has become one of the most sought after actors in Bengal. He is also the most desirable man from Tollywood enjoying a huge fan base. So, does Abir have any message for the Bengali audience? Well, he has something for his fans.
“These days audiences in Bengal look for content-driven films. Be it a mainstream or a niche film, it has to deliver strong content. They want films and characters that they can relate to. If you follow Sonada, you’ll instantly think like there’s a Sonada in our family or in close circles during our childhood who we would look up to and who used to be our go-to person.
The kind of characters I’ve been playing for the last few years somehow resonate with my audience. They have found this guy-next-door feel in my characters. We need to make more films that are entertaining, cerebral and at the same time can be watched by families and children. I have always tried to give that to my viewers. Viewers today are open to new content and characters when they watch Hindi films, but they often look for an inherent, serious message in Bengali films. I think this discrepancy should be resolved,” that’s what the versatile actor urges to the Bengali movie buffs.
