Srijit Mukherji is in a happy space and why not? His latest offering ‘Gumnaami’ has once again proved his box office mettle against all odds. The thriller has turned out to be the highest grosser Bengali film of 2019. And now, yet another feather to its cap as the film has completed 50 days at the box office as it continues to win audience hearts.
The film, produced by SVF, is based on the famous Mukherjee Commission hearings where the three theories about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s alleged death were debated. ‘Gumnaami’ follows the myth surrounding Gumnaami Baba, an ascetic from Uttar Pradesh who was often rumoured to be Netaji in disguise. Starring Prosenjit Chatterjee in the titular role, the film sees Anirban Bhattacharya playing a print journalist Chandrachur Dhar and Tnusree Chakraborty as his wife.
An elated Prosenjit wrote on Twitter: “50 days of #Gumnaami thanks everyone for your love and support. With your support I’m sure it will make another 50 and more. Thanks to @srijitspeaketh for trusting me always.”
