Aparna Sen’s modern-day adaptation of Tagore’s ‘Ghare Baire’ sees Jisshu Sengupta playing Sandip, the character which was immortalised by Soumitra Chattopadhyay in Satyajit Ray’s cult classic Ghare Baire. However, instead of a dark character, in Aparna’s ‘Ghawre Bairey Aaj’ Sandip has shades of grey, not a completely dark character. We asked the dashing actor if he had watched Ray’s ‘Ghare Baire’ before the shoot started for Aparna Sen’s film.
“I had watched Satyajit Ray’s film once or twice, long back. For me, the script is the Bible. Ghawre Bairey Aaj is not a remake of Ghare Baire. It’s an adaptation of Tagore’s novel by Aparna Sen. Also, the film is based in today’s time. I don’t go for references. I had watched Sanyashi Raja when I was a child. I didn’t go back to it before shooting for Ek Je Chhilo Raja. I did not even remember the film. I don’t watch films so much. I love to watch web series and superhero films. Many people believe that the more you watch films, the more you learn. My biggest learning is from life. More than watching films, I try to be with people,” explains Jisshu.
Beside Jisshu, the socio-political drama sees Anirban Bhattacharya as Nikhilesh and Tuhina Das as Brinda, the other two leads. Produced by SVF, ‘Ghawre Bairey Aaj’ will release on November 15.
