Sandip Ray’s ‘Professor Shonku O El Dorado’, inspired by his father Satyajit Ray’s story ‘Nakur Babu O El Dorado’ will hit the theatres during Christmas this year. This is the first time a film will be made on this iconic scientist character Professor Shonku.
Seasoned actor Dhritiman Chatterjee will portray professor Shonku while Subhashish Mukhopadhyay will be seen as Nakur Babu. Dhritiman is well aware how challenging it will be to match the expectations of Bengali audience. “The main problem was to adjust Shonku to the modern world as time and surroundings of Shonku have changed completely. I have to play the character keeping in mind every minute detail mentioned in the original stories. But I am also thankful to Sandip Ray for giving me the opportunity to enact such an iconic character,” explained the noted actor.
Speaking about the difficulties he faced while shooting ‘Professor Shonku O El Dorado’, Sandip Ray has already admitted his father Satyajit Ray made it extremely difficult to portray the character differently as Ray sketched every one of his characters in his own way. So, there is no liberty to change their physical appearances. There is also no creative license to make Shonku behave or speak any differently.
The official poster of ‘Professor Shonku O El Dorado’ was released recently and it became an instant hit on social media. The adventure drama is bankrolled by SVF.
