The title track of Birsa Dasgupta’s Bibaho Obhijaan brings alive both the troubles and fun that marriage comes with, with a comical rendition by Debraj Bhattacharya and Anirban Bhattacharya. Composed by Jeet Gannguli, the song features Rudranil Ghosh, Ankush Hazra, Nusraat Faria and Sohini Sarkar as the protagonists.
The singers lend appropriate mood to the lyrics by Srijato Bandyopadhyay containing a lot of humour. The words come straight from the hearts of the two newly married husbands, who end up being miserable at the hands of their wives, while trying to win them over.
In the beginning, both Ghosh and Hazra seem to be enjoying their wedding with great anticipation and the lyrics too add to their secret desires. However, the wedding night reveals the truth for them. While Ghosh discovers that his wife (Sohini Sarkar) is more keen on watching her favourite television serial than spending some romantic moments, Hazra learns that his wife (Nusraat Faria) is a feminist, to whom consent matters the most.
Sarkar’s entire notion of taking care of her husband rests on performing various rituals, rather than sometimes allowing her husband to express love for her. Ghosh finds himself in deep trouble, when he finds all his certificates to have been replaced by photographs of gods and goddesses in his home.
Hazra is in no better position. It is a pain to ask his wife to shower affection on him. He does all the household chores to win Faria’s attention but in vain, until he impresses her with his cooking skills.
The ending sequence of the song has a visual of both the couple cherishing their married life together.
The visuals suggest that Dasgupta has resorted to stereotypes in sketching the characters, especially that of the females. While Ghosh appears comfortable in his avatar, Hazra seems to be too superficial for an out-an-out comic role.
Bibaho Obhijaan is slated for release on 21 June.
