‘Ek Je Chilo Raja’: Srijit Mukherji reveals how differently he has used Bhawal Sanyasi.

Featuring Jisshu Sengupta in the titular role, ‘Ek Je Chilo Raja’ is a period drama based on ‘A Princely Imposter’ by Partha Chatterjee. It draws inspiration from the famous 1975 BhawalSanyasi court case. Apart from Jisshu, the film has a stellar cast including Jaya Ahsan, Aparna Sen, Rudranil Ghosh, Anjan Dutta, Anirban Bhattacharya and Tanushree Chakraborty.

While speaking about the upcoming period drama, director Srijit Mukherji spilled the beans on how differently he has portrayed the Bhawal sanyasi. “It’s not just an entertaining one, but also a gripping thriller and I believe it will be perhaps my best work this year. A shocking series of real-life incidents make this film’s story more mysterious and I have largely focused on the famous court case. It’s a period courtroom drama that will certainly thrill the audience till the end.”

The 1975 Bhawal Sanyasi case involved an impostor who claimed he was the second Kumar of Bhawal. The court ultimately came to a surprising decision that the person was the prince indeed.
