Whenever a film adaptation has been made on Byomkesh Bakshi, it has largely focused on exploring the Satyanweshi’s sharp thinking and unmatchable intuition in any investigation. ‘Bidaay Byomkesh’ also portrays Byomkesh as an individual.
However, this time director Debaloy Bhattacharya’s most precious card is a new character Satyaki, the grandson of Byomkesh. It aptly justifies the legacy of Byomkesh without shifting the focus on him. Satyaki, initially an arrogant immature young man, slowly transforms into the sidekick of his famous grandfather, who often carries out Byomkesh’s work in the field or the physical task. He can’t deny the inherent qualities in his blood. He becomes a seeker of truth. Abir Chatterjee also seems more convincing as a young Satyaki than an octogenarian Byomkesh Bakshi.
Throughout the film, Byomkesh’s love for his family attempts to make him weak but the Satyanweshi in him stays truthful to the fact. Debaloy has also utilized the plot to concentrate more on the complex relationships in Byomkesh’s family rather churning out just another typical thriller based on the iconic sleuth. He didn’t even try to overshadow the master story-teller and the creator of Byomkesh, Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay, which perfectly works for this spin-off.
