Kabir Khan and Kapil Dev visits Kolkata to promote their upcoming film ‘83’

Kolkata, that reeks in the glory and nostalgia of the 1983 victorious Lord’s moment, gets its share of reliving the event.  Kapil Dev and Kabir Khan, who are all set to bring the valour of the proud 1983 World Cup moment on big screen soon, graced the city of joy with their presence today. In an event held at Kolkata, Director Kabir Khan shared his extensive journey and experience with the making of his upcoming film ‘83’ and ex-skipper Kapil Dev gave the people in attendance a chance to revisit the first World Cup win of India while sharing those legendary moments. This was followed by the showcase of the trailer and 83’s first song ‘Lehra Do’. The event concluded with both the eminent personalities indulging in a Tet-a-Tet with the city’s media circle.

Ranveer Singh starrer and Kabir Khan directorial ‘83’ is a roaring tale of an underdog Indian cricket team who created history, the glory of which still resonates with every Indian. Based on Kapil Dev and team’s phenomenal journey to an unexpected victory, ‘83’is soaring high in its expectations post the release of its trailer which has set an internet record. Kabir Khan and Kapil Dev’s visit to Kolkata played nothing but an augmentation to the 83 World Cup madness that the dwellers of this city have been living with for the last 38 years.

Ranveer Singh will be seen stepping into the shoes of Kapil Dev. Also starring are Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Addinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, R Badree and Pankaj Tripathi. While Deepika Padukone Will be seen in a cameo avatar playing Romi, Kapil Dev’s Wife.

Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films present 83, a Kabir Khan Films Production. The film is produced by Deepika Padukone, Kabir Khan, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, Sajid Nadiadwala, Sheetal Vinod Talwar, Reliance Entertainment and 83 Film Ltd. 83 is directed by Kabir Khan. A Reliance Entertainment and PVR Pictures release slated this Christmas on 24th December 2021 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam in both 2D and 3D.  SVF Entertainment will lead the Eastern Indian Distribution of the film.

Kapil Dev, Former Captain of Indian Cricket Team, said, “The mere idea of showcasing the incidents of 1983 World Cup on the screen seemed extraordinary to me from the very first time I heard of it.  And now looking at the way Kabir has handled it, by the look of the trailer I am overwhelmed. I remember him asking me about every little detail of certain things to reach the extreme level of perfection on screen and he has given a tremendous performance. Among many other things, the passion for sports shows in the people here. The feeling of euphoria playing at the eden gardens cannot be matched with anywhere else in the world. The energy of a hundred thousand people cheering a player on is unparalleled.”
