Yash, Nusrat team up for horror flick

After making a mark in Bollywood with her work in films like Jism 2, Jannat 2, Aashiqui 2 and Raaz — The Mystery Continues to name a few, well-known Bollywood screenplay writer Shagufta Rafique is making a foray into Tollywood. She will soon be debuting as a writer and director for a Bengali film titled 7. The horror film will star Yash and Nusrat Jahan in the lead.

On being asked about what led her to sign up for a Bengali banner, Shagufta said, “Someone from the production house got in touch with my friend in Mumbai and asked for my number. Then he contacted me and I flew down to Kolkata to meet Shrikant Mohta. They wanted to do something in the supernatural and horror genre, which has not been explored for a long time in Bengali films. So, I shared with them a script that I had written six years back with the intention of directing it. Shrikantji loved the story and gave a go-ahead as soon as I finished narrating.”

Shagufta further informed it’s a horror film with lots of supernatural elements. “Strange things start happening when a supernatural entity in the form of a human being comes to earth. I can’t disclose more about the story at this point,” she said.

Yash and Nusrat, who play a couple in the film, are close to this entity and what happens to their lives is something the audience will eventually find out. We are yet to finalise the rest of the cast,” said Shagufta.

Both Yash and Nusrat are excited to be part of the project and are looking forward to it. “The film is based on real-life incidents and at times it is scary too. I’m sure the audience will get to see something new. This is my second film with Yash and we are hoping to come up with something fresh,” said Nusrat. Yash, on his part, said, “The script is the hero of this film and we actors will just support the story. It’s something I’ve never done before, so I’m both nervous and excited.”

The music of the film has been scored by Jeet Gannguli and Ravi Walia is the DoP. It is set to go on the floors from August and will be shot across Kolkata and Darjeeling.
