It’s a film that delves into a unique flavour of love through three idiosyncratic stories — Insomnia, Arthritis and HIV Positive. And the idea behind Anjan Dutt’s Finally Bhalobasha is to change the common perception about love. “The three stories are about the realisation of love after trials by fire. The characters in these three stories realise what true love is in the end.”
When asked about his definition of love, Anjan told us, “The 30 years of my conjugal life included a lot of emotional crises, which we overcame together. And that is love for me. That’s the reason why I have dealt with tabooed relationships in this film. I had faced similar situations and persevered.”
Here’s what he told us about the three stories: Insomnia: Based in Asansol, this story charts the journey towards freedom of a woman. This story features the shady businessman, Sarkar (Arindam Sil), Malabika (Raima Sen) and Bibek (Arjun Chakrabarty). “Malabika is trying to elope with Bibek, who is attracted towards her. She tries to use this attraction to her advantage,” Anjan said.
Arthritis: This story tracks the lives of a carefree young musician, Ahiri (Sauraseni Maitra), and the lonely and aged Dinesh (Anjan Dutt). “Dinesh is in a relationship with Ahiri to escape depression. He’s also using the girl’s emotions to distract himself from his unhappy past,” the director added.
HIV Positive: A dying young actor, Joy (Anirban), is in search of a friend in Darjeeling, where he is comforted and taken care of by a male nurse, Rajat (Suprobhat). “Rajat takes care of the terminally ill gay man despite being homophobic,” Anjan said.
The director went on to add that all the three stories end with the protagonists coming to terms with life. “They find hope and understand the meaning of true love, leading to Finally Bhalobasha,” he signed off.
Finally Bhalobasha, produced by SVF, releases on February 8.
