On the 123rd birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, an emotion on which every Bengali harp upon, SVF released the first poster of ‘Gumnami – The greatest story never told’, Srijit Mukherji’s most ambitious project so far. The poster has Gumnami Baba staring at a wall with a collage of newspaper cutouts on Netaji’s disappearance. It surely intrigued the mystery among the movie buffs. It can be ‘expect the unexpected’!
“During my school days I read that Netaji disappeared on August 18, 1945, and many believe died in a plane crash. While researching it, I stumbled upon things that completely changed my whole understanding of how things happened, which you all will get to see in this movie. I have decided to keep it an open-ended and unbiased portrayal, and reserve my personal opinion for now. The primary aim is to start a debate that has been muffled for years,” Srijit remains optimistic despite the recent controversy surrounding ‘Gumnaami’.
It all started when Chandra Kumar Bose, a member of the Bose family then made an objection on the lines that since Gumnami Baba’s actual identity was never conclusively ascertained, he can’t be showed as Netaji in the film.
However, in reply Srijit took to his Facebook to let the fans know the film will only ask questions based on a certain theory amongst the many theories in vogue about the final days of Netaji Shubhash Chandra Bose.
‘Gumnaami’ draws inspiration from Anuj Dhar and Chandrachur Ghosh’s book CONUNDRUM, Subhas Bose’s Life After Death and will have Prosenjit Chatterjee playing the titular role.
