The special screenings of Gumnaami were a star-studded affair. Along with the cast and crew of the film, several other faces from Tollywood got together for the event. Two special screenings were held at two city multiplexes. Director Srijit Mukherji, who looked relieved after his film’s release, was spotted ushering in the guests. “I am really hopeful about the film and believe that people will love watching it. This is not just a Puja release for me, but also an attempt to make a statement,” he added.
Prosenjit Chatterjee, who wore a short white kurta with denims, had a similar opinion. “Every year, I have at least one Puja release, but Gumnaami is really special for me. I have come out of my comfort zone for this film. I feel really fortunate to be a part of it,” he said.
Srijit has been wanting to make a film on the disappearance of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose for very long now. So, when he finally started researching on the subject a couple of years ago, he was fascinated by the various theories about his disappearance. The film is primarily based on Mukherjee Commission hearings that take us through the various theories on the death and disappearance of Bose.
“I think there has never been such a script, and that too with such in-depth research and investigation, not just on the Bengali big screen but across film industries in India. So, I think that is one of the reasons why people will like it,” said actor Anirban Bhattacharya, who is seen portraying the character of an investigative journalist in Gumnaami.
