Bickram Ghosh is a happy man with all the praises he is receiving for the music of Dhrubo Banerjee’s Durgeshgorer Guptodhon. Bickram has taken the adventure level a notch higher with his music and background score. He said, “I am really happy that the music for Durgeshgorer Guptodhon is being appreciated so widely. It’s being liked by people across generations. Both youngsters and even middle-aged and elderly people are texting me and speaking of how much they are liking the music. I think we should divide the music into two parts. One, is the song space and the other is background music space. What’s really wonderful about Dhrubo’s team, including Subhendu Das Munshi who wrote the songs, is that they have an excellent vision about the music of Bengal. In the first film, we captured a zone of chanting through sound and music, which has been spilled over into this new film as well. So, the role of the chant is very important for the storyline. And the chant conjures up the era of the bygone time from which the ‘guptodhon’ comes into the current time space. So the chant serves as a vehicle to get transported to that period. For this film, Dhrubo wanted the music to have a puratani or bhakti-geeti style. I have always shied away from working with pre-composed music unless absolutely necessary. Recreating a traditional-style song from the scratch is what I like to do. And I am really surprised that youngsters have loved the compositions.”
