New Sleuth In Town: Abir Chatterjee Set To Play Detective In ‘Guptodhoner Sondhane’

Dhrubo Banerjee’s Bengali film ‘Guptodhoner Sondhane’ will see Abir Chatterjee donning the hat of a detective.

In the debutant director’s ‘Guptodhoner Sondhane’, Abir Chatterjee will be seen portraying the role of the History Professor Subarna Sen who is better known as Sona Da. Abir, who is a popular name in Bengali cinema is the son of theatre celebrities, Phalguni and Rumki Chatterjee. He was earlier voted as “Calcutta Times Most Desirable Man”. It is not the first time where the renowned actor confidently plays the role of a detective and creates mystery on the silver screen. He has been lauded several times for his role as ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’ and ‘Feluda’.

The film also stars Arjun Chakraborty and Ishaa Saha who are both successful artists in the Bengali Film Industry. Rajatava Dutta, Gautam Ghosh, Arindam Sil, Kamaleswar Mukherjee will also be seen taking up crucial roles in the film.

The film’s narrative has been written by director Dhrubo Bandopadhyay and co-written by Subhendu Dasmunsi. The film will take its inspiration from many historical episodes. As reported, Dhrubo intends to direct a detective series in the same franchise. The debut director introduced his adventure trio franchise- Sona Da, Abir and Jhinuk.

SVF that is producing the film was earlier known for big detective productions like ‘Byomkesh’, ‘Shabor’, ‘Kakababu’ and ‘Feluda’. However, ‘Guptodhoner Sondhane’ will be the first film to give birth to complete new and original characters.

The shooting of the movie began last year, in the month of December. Most of the shooting took place in Kolkata and Bolpur. Primarily an adventure movie, ‘Guptodhoner Sondhane’ will also merge action along with the subtleties of Bengali literature.

The film will hit the theatres on 27th of April, 2018.
