Kolkata, March 24: In a year which has been marked with the high-octane Bengal elections and with almost majority of the Bengali stars fighting the polls or campaigning for some political party, films seem to have taken a backseat in the poll-bound state for a while. But for SVF, the biggest production house in eastern India, it still seems to be business.
On the 25th year of SVF, they have announced an interesting line-up of films. From drama to thrillers, SVF made sure they have a bit of everything in the five films they had to offer for the audience in 2021.
Big names
In their bouquet of new films, SVF has roped in some of the biggest names of the Bengali film industry such as Prosenjit Chatterjee, Srijit Mukherji, Dev, Sandip Ray, Anirban Bhattacharya, Dhrubo Banerjee, Birsa Dasgupta, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Madhumita, Anirban Chakrabarti, Ishaa Saha and more.
Music and more
The first film to hit theatres from SVF is Parambrata Chattopadhyay and Madhumita-starrer Tangra Blues. A Bengali musical drama, directed by Supriyo Sen the film will highlight the musical culture of Kolkata slums. The film will hit the theatres on April 15.
“Proud to be a part and co creator on this varied and rich line up!,” tweeted Parambrata, who has directed the legendary Soumitra Chatterjee in his last film Abhijaan.
Take a thrill pill
From Baishe Sraban to Dwitiyo Purush, SVF has offered some gripping thrillers to the audience. Birsa Dasgupta’s Psycho is another fascinating thriller that comes from the house of SVF which pledges to be one of the most promising thrillers of 2021.
With Anirban Bhattacharya in the lead role, Psycho is a gripping edge of the seat revenge thriller with shocking twists and unforeseen events. It will hit the theatres on May 21. It would be interesting to watch Birsa direct Anirban in a thriller, who had earlier acted in his comedy Bibaho Obhijaan.
Kicking off in style
Independence Day is set to get special as Dev gears up to essay the character of Father of Indian football Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari in Golondaaj. Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari made an immense contribution to the game and went on to set up many football clubs in Kolkata.
This historical drama, directed by Dhrubo Banerjee is the first ever historical fiction that gives an introduction of Indian football and the person who took the initiative of kicking it forward.
From the pages of literature
SVF is back with its favourite franchise — Kakababu and Feluda. But this time, there’s an added attraction.
Given this is the 100th birth anniversary of the iconic Satyajit Ray, two of his creations — Feluda and Shanku — will come together in a film, Shanku aar Feluda helmed by Sandip Ray. The film will hit the theatres on December 24.
Then, there is Srijit Mukherji, who is back with the third instalment of his ever-loving Kakababu film series.
This time he went to the jungles of Africa with Kakababu aka Prosenjit Chatterjee. Based on Jongoler Moddhey Ek Hotel by Sunil Gangopadhyay, Kakababur Protyaborton is a wildlife adventure story of Kakababu and Santu with Prosenjit and Aryann Bhowmick in the lead role. Slated to release on October 8 (yes, during the Durga Puja), Kakababu promises the audience to take on a trip of exploring Africa.
