Come January and Shankar’s famed novel ‘Chowringee’ is coming alive through a new film ‘Shah Jahan Regency’, directed by Srijit Mukerji. The story revolves around a hotel named ‘Shah Jahan Regency’ and the lives of people associated with that hotel. The hotel is one of a kind and very different from others as it strongly believes in the rich culture of India and tries to imply and maintain that in every aspect of it- starting from the decor to uniforms of the staff members, to the names given to various parts of the building. The film marks Srjit’s debut collaboration with SVF as a producer under Mathcut Productions.
The ensemble cast includes Abir Chatterjee, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Rituparna Sengupta, Swastika Mukherjee, Anirban Bhattacharya, Anjan Dutt, Mamata Shankar, Rittika,Rudranil Ghosh, Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee, Kanchan Mullick, Babul Supriyo and others.
The script, screenplay, and dialogues are by Srijit Mukherji, music is by Anupam Roy and the background score is given by Indraadip Dasgupta.
We see an intricate maze of characters intertwined with one another initially in a simple way which then leads to various complications.
Speaking about the collaboration, Srijit Mukherji said, “I have been associated with SVF since 2010 as a director which marked my entry in the Bengali film industry. This is the first time I am not only directing but also co-producing a film, so Shah Jahan Regency has been treated in a special way. The concept is also quite interesting as the entire film is shown in chapters showcasing the attachment of the characters with the hotel, which is more than just a hotel for them.”
The film is releasing on January 18, which will be the first release of 2019 from SVF.
