Srijit Mukherji had initially decided on an ensemble cast for his next ‘Shah Jahan Regency’ that included big names like Prosenjit Chatterjee and Jisshu Sengupta. However, Prosenjit saw himself too old for the role of Sata Bose and opted out. Meanwhile, Jisshu rejected the offer as he is still recovering from a recent gall bladder surgery. To compensate for the loss of star attraction, Abir Chatterjee has been roped in to replace Prosenjit, while Parambrata Chatterjee is set to play the character Jisshu Sengupta was supposed to essay. Swastika Mukherjee too has made a late entry to the cast replacing Jaya Ahsan.
While speaking of the new set of actors, director Srijit said, “Parambrata and only he could have essayed out this role the way it has come out. It’s basically a tailor-made character. Param has always been one of my go-to men, apart from Jisshu and Bumbada (Prosenjit). I enjoy a nice tuning with him and I believe he is one of the most intelligent actors around at the moment.”
Rituparna Sengupta, Anjan Dutt, Anirban Bhattacharya, Rudranil Ghosh and Babul Supriyo will also be seen in important roles in the film which is inspired by Sankar’s best-selling novel ‘Chowringhee’.
If all goes according to the plan, ‘Shah Jahan Regency’ will go on the floors later this month.
