After the success of Guptodhoner Sondhane, Dhrubo Banerjee is back with its sequel. Durgeshgorer Guptodhon will see Sona Da (Abir Chatterjee) visit his student’s ancestral mansion in Durgeshgor. The great-grandfather of this student was an erstwhile zamindar and a renowned artist. There is a myth that they had once received a massive treasure, but all traces and trails of it are lost. Abir (Arjun Chakrabarty) and Jhinuk (Ishaa Saha), along with the history professor, stumble upon a few lost clues. What happens next is what the film is all about. CT spoke to the cast and the director about how they have tried to revive the pride of Bengal through this film and building a successful franchise. Read on…
Abir: While the film tries to bring us close to our roots, it is not preachy. It is a great watch for families and high on Bangaliana. Sona Da represents the typical ‘sona chhele’ in every Bengali household. He is suave, witty, good in academics, has a great sense of humour — making him everyone’s favourite.
Arjun: This franchise is becoming a hit, as it is rich in Bangaliana, literature, history and culture. Food also plays an important role in this series. So, all these factors help the audience relate to it.
Ishaa: Durga Puja is a very important part of our culture and this film shows many hidden facts about the festival, which can be a ready reference for all. The series of Sona Da talks about our culture and history, striking a chord with the audience. Besides, since Sona Da is a contemporary figure, the audience relates to him easily.
Dhrubo: The central theme of the series is inheritance and Bangaliana. The film’s combination of literature, culture and history makes us even more proud of our roots. It shows the path to unearth these three factors through fun, frolic and entertainment. There is not a single dull moment. And I feel this series will unite global Bengalis on one platform, where they will celebrate the history that they are proud of.
