‘Bhoot Chaturdashi’, a spooky thriller revolving around four friends out to make a documentary will soon hit the theatres. Bhoot Chaturdashi is like the Bengali equivalent of Halloween which is celebrated on the eve of Kali Puja to ward off evil. Surprisingly the film was shot in ten days flat and debutant director Shabbir Mallick says he wanted to make a horror film in the lines of ‘Annabelle’ or ‘The Conjuring’.
“I always kept in mind this film shouldn’t be turned into a hilarious horror flick like we have seen in Bengali cinema over the years by keeping things subtle and unnecessarily escalating the thrill part and scare element. I have kept the suspense intact till the end to keep the audience at the edge of their seats,” said Shabbir who has earlier assisted filmmaker Mainak Bhaumik in films like ‘Cholochitro Circus’, ‘Happy Pill’, ‘Bibaho Diaries’ and ‘Generation Aami’. Interestingly the story is by Mainak.
The story shows how four friends Rono, Shreya, Pritha and Debu end up in a spooky location for a documentary shoot in Bolpur and then scary things unfurl.
‘Bhoot Chaturdashi’ stars four young actors in the lead – Aryann Bhowmick, Ena Saha, Soumendra Bhattacharya and Deepsheta Mitra and is produced by SVF.
