While Jisshu and Sara Sengupta, the real-life father-daughter duo, will be seen as the father and daughter on-screen also in Srijit Mukherji’s ‘Uma’, Sayantika Banerjee has been cast as Uma’s mother. The charming actress believes this film has every possibility to become a turning point in her career just like ‘Awara’ did back in 2012. The actress has also revealed the offer came to her at the last moment. Except for her, the entire cast was decided already.
During a recent interview, Sayantika shared her experience of playing the role and she reportedly said this will be the first time people will be angry with her character. But at the end of the day, the viewers will realize why Uma’s mother had to do such things because director Srijit Mukherjee has nicely balanced the character. She further adds if you want to describe ‘Uma’ in three words it will be – emotional, beautiful and ultimate.
The Srijit Mukherji directorial has been inspired by the story of Canadian boy Evan Leversage, who died of cancer in 2015. ‘Uma’ is all about a young girl suffering from a terminal disease, a father who is finding it hard to fulfill his daughter’s dream and a struggling director haunted by his past.
