Feluda and Professor Shanku, one of the iconic characters created by Satyajit Ray, will feature in one film directed by Sandip Ray to mark 100th birth anniversary of the celebrated filmmaker.

Satyajit Ray's creations Feluda and Professor Shanku will be part of one film directed by his son, Sandip Ray.

To mark the 100th birth anniversary of one of the countries best filmmakers, Satyajit Ray, a film is being directed by his son Sandip Ray which will feature his iconic characters Feluda and Professor Shanku. This will be the first time one film will feature Feluda and Professor Shanku together. The film has not be titled yet. However, it is scheduled to release in may 2021.

Bollywood analyst Taran Adarsh took to social media to announce the new. He wrote, “ANNOUNCEMENT… To mark #SatyajitRay’s 100th birth anniversary in 2021, #SVF makes a big announcement… Featuring two of #Ray’s greatest creations – #Feluda and #ProfessorShanku – the not-yet-titled film will be directed by #SandipRay… May 2021 release (sic).”

Satyajit Ray was one of the most iconic filmmakers the country has ever seen. The director-writer-music composer made films like The Apu Trilogy (195559), The Music Room (1958), The Big City (1963) and Charulata (1964), among others. 2021 marks the 100th birth anniversary of the celebrated director.

Recently, it was announced that a collection of stills of the 1974 Satyajit Ray film Sonar Kella, not in public domain, will be published in the autumnal issue of the children’s Bengali magazine Sandesh this month. The maestro’s director son Sandip Ray told PTI that the stills were taken in 1973 during the outdoor shooting of Sonar Kella, the first film on the iconic fictional sleuth Feluda created by the filmmaker.

Satyajit Ray, popularly called Manik da as a sign of respect, carved a niche in Indian cinema with his brilliant filmmaking and storytelling. He became the second Indian to win an Oscar after Bhanu Athaiya.
