Almost every child who grew up in India’s Bengali community spent their childhood loving Satyajit Ray’s Feluda. The novel, the short stories and the films. Time passed and as they all grew up to be an adult, the premises of Saradindu Bandyopadhyay’s Byomkesh Bakshi and Satyajit Ray’s Chiriakhana which was based on one of the cases of Byomkesh Bakshi became more relatable. He is a married detective, who quarrels with his wife, strictly follows Newton’s first law of motion; his body will remain in rest unless acted upon by an external force. But in the fifth season of Hoichoi’s Byomkesh, within a span of two episodes, we were introduced to a different emotional phase of the detective. He is seen as a vulnerable patriot who leans on his wife for emotional support. He utterly stirred by the political atmosphere and Winston Churchill’s blatant ignorance towards India’s condition. He partly reminds you of Chandra from Gumnaami.
Ridhima Ghosh who played Satyabati Bakshi in the latest original series felt an upsurge of happiness on knowing about the existence of a platform such as LetsOtt. “I think LetsOTT.com is a great thing. I think you should always support new things and good content. I really believe content is the king, and if we have a platform like LetsOTT.com backing us, that really gives us a push to come up with better content for everybody to watch and enjoy,” she said.
While talking about how Satyabati Bakshi played a vital role in Byomkesh’s life, actress Ridhima Ghosh during an exclusive conversation with LetsOtt said, “This is season five of Byomkesh…we have done four seasons before that. This is during the famine which was going on at that point in time. Everyone was affected by it in some way or the other I mean not just monetarily but emotionally. At that point of time, Byomkesh is going through a depression and he is not strong emotionally. So, Satyabati plays a very important role in bringing him back up on his feet so that he can go back and start working again.”
