Dhrubo Banerjee’s sports drama ‘Golondaaj’, which stars Dev in the lead, has finally locked its release date. The film, inspired by the life of the father of Indian football Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, is set to release in theatres on August 13 celebrating the spirit of Independence Day.
Dev will be seen as the radical, open-minded and prolific athlete who was responsible for introducing the concept of football among the people of India. Like many other films in Tollywood, after much delay and interruption, the shooting for Dhrubo’s film was finally wrapped up recently.
In this period film, Nagendra will be seen as a man who challenges the existing social structure and will go on to become a true leader on the field. Bhargav will be essayed by Anirban Bhattacharya. Bhargav is this film’s surprise element, a freedom fighter who is responsible for instilling the nationalist angle in the narrative. The character Kamalini will be played by Ishaa Saha. She is the princess of Sovabazar, married to Nagendra, and contributes to an amazing romantic side to the film. The otherwise shy, naïve girl, Kamalini, turns out to be one of Nagendra’s greatest supports.
Jeetendra will be played by Indrashish Ray, who is a fearsome, robust character whose love for his land made him ‘anti-British’. Jackson (name yet to be confirmed) is being essayed by American actor Alexx O’ Nell. He’s the finest British player reputed for his skills in the game. Surya Kumar Sarbadhikari — Nagendra’s father — will be played by singer Srikanto Acharya. Prasanna Kumar Sarbadhikari will be played by actor Joydeep Mukherjee. Prasanna is Surya Kumar’s elder brother, one of the leading educationists of the time. John Bhattacharya will be seen playing the character of Binod.
