The cast and crew of Gumnaami, the Puja release by Srijit Mukherji, was present at the Simla Bayam Samiti pandal recently. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was associated with this Puja pandal for a long time. The magnum opus stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Anirban Bhattacharya and Tnusree Chakraborty in pivotal roles. According to the director, the film, which has grabbed a lot of attention recently, is based on Mukherjee Commission hearings that took place between 1999 and 2005. Srijit said, “Netaji’s disappearance is based on three theories. The film eclipses all the theories and tries to answer the logical questions that come to the mind of the audience. From the first day itself, I told my whole team to not treat this film as a mere project but as a national duty.”
Prosenjit, who plays Netaji’s character, said, “I was nervous about playing this role. The questions around Netaji’s disappearance arise in every Bengali person’s mind and we are trying to answer those questions through the cinematic language.”
Anirban said, “I am grateful to Srijit for casting me in a film like this. It is an honour to talk about a film related to Netaji, which speaks of his undying spirit.” Tnusree was also elated to be a part of a film like Gumnaami. “This is my first project with Srijit and second with Bumbada. I feel fortunate to be a part of the film.”
