Prem Tame isn’t a typical love story

A north Calcutta para, its quaint lanes and bylanes, four friends, a story about growing up, adolescents falling in love for the first time, and a football match made Chandrabindoo man Anindya Chattopadhyay’s debut directorial venture Open Tee Bioscope a realistic, witty, laugh riot. After Open Tee Bioscope, Anindya went on to make films like Projapoti Biskut and Manojder Adbhut Bari. Now he is back with his new film Prem Tame, which releases on Valentine’s Day next year. The trailer, which dropped recently, is getting a lot of praise on social media.

Prem Tame revolves around Pablo, “a dreamy-eyed college-goer, who sets out on a journey of finding himself. In this journey, he meets a girl and falls in love”. Soumya Mukherjee plays Pablo, while Susmita and Sweta play Raaji and Arshi respectively. “Prem Tame isn’t a typical love story that audiences are accustomed to. However, the context is very relevant and relatable, taking one back to their college memories. The protagonist here doesn’t know what to do with his life and is very confused. The story unfolds around that confusion. Prem Tame is one very special project for me and I was extremely hopeful throughout its making. I like working with fresh young talent and decided to cast the three of them. Soumya, Susmita and Sweta have done a great job in the film,” says Anindya.

Raaji, feels Susmita, is a free-spirited soul who has a strong independent character. “She is always searching for that ‘perfect love’ yet she is kind of commitment phobic. In this movie the only meaningful relationship she has is with Khogen (her pet). She is compassionate towards causes as she always fights for the right things in life and she just follows her heart all the time. As Anindya Sir puts it, she is a complete tomboy, which even I am in real life,” says Susmita.

What was her fave part about the trailer? “The best part was my intro! Always dreamt of having such a ‘hero’-type entry and for that I am really thankful to Moni Sir (Mahendra Soni, co-founder and director of SVF) and Anindya Sir for giving me this opportunity because the intro totally resonates with my reel and real-life character. The other best part is Khogen! I love animals, especially dogs, and we had a blast shooting with him. The trailer brought back all those lovely memories. The love for the trailer has been overwhelming from all quarters! Starting from my school and college friends to my colleagues who have been ecstatic, I have received messages from different parts of Bengal and India even,” smiles Susmita.
