Director Debaloy Bhattaharya is gearing up for his upcoming film, Dracula Sir. It is for the first time that actress-MP Mimi Chakraborty and actor Anirban Bhattacharya will be paired opposite each other. Giving a sneak peek into the film’s plot, Debaloy told us, “A primary school teacher who has a protruding pair of canine teeth earns the nickname, Dracula Sir. As destiny pushes him towards becoming the vampire he has always been referred to, he has a story to tell from 1971 that makes his journey a tale of finding love and revenge. This is my search for the Bangali dracula without the castle, out to create his own myth.” Debaloy has not only penned the story, he has also donned the director’s hat and has co-written the screenplay and dialogues, along with Kallol Lahiri. The cinematography is by Indranath Marick. The music of the film will be scored by Saqi, Ishaan and Amit. And on the editing table will be Sanglap Bhowmick. Sharing his excitement of working with Mimi, Debaloy, said, “Mimi has melancholia and a sadness that has never been explored before. The character of Manjari, who drives the narrative silently, needs the same. I was a fan of the character Pupe since Gaaner Opare days, and the character of Manjari has a shade of Pupe’s poise. It’s by sheer luck that Mimi decided to make a comeback and I was casting for Manjari. She got the role in a blink of an eye. I am excited to shoot with her. The film goes on the floors from January 10.” As for Anirban, the director feels that he should be his first and the last choice for the character. “As an actor, Anirban has a wide range. He can play everything — from an underdog to a larger-than-life character. He is undoubtedly one of the most promising young faces on the big screen today,” said Debaloy.
