Jisshu could have played Nikhilesh in ‘Ghawre Baire Aaj’!

Jisshu Sengupta plays Sandip in Aparna Sen’s soon-to-be-released ‘Ghawre Baire Aaj’. But did you know he was offered to play Nikhilesh? Incidentally, Anirban Bhattacharya essays the character of Nikhilesh in the film. Speaking about the socio-political drama’s casting, Aparna Sen, director of ‘Ghawre Baire Aaj’ said she had thought about Jisshu playing Nikhilesh.

“Nikhilesh in ‘Ghawre Baire Aaj’ needs to speak a lot of English. We had cast Anirban as Nikhilesh but then I had a second thought. Will he get the accent right? So, I had asked Jisshu if he would want to play Nikhilesh because the final decision on casting wasn’t done at that time. However, Jisshu said he would play Sandip. In fact, Jisshu has that suave and flamboyance to portray Sandip as well. Anirban also insisted playing Nikhilesh will help him grow as an actor and that’s how it happened,” revealed the National Award-winning director.

Produced by SVF, ‘Ghawre Baire Aaj’ is a modern retelling of Rabindranath Tagore`s classic novel, the film chronicles a triangular love story which is as much a story of passionate romance as it is of clashing ideologies. The story has a contemporary touch for the audience to make it relatable to the present scenario in the country.

The film will hit the theatres on November 15.
