Hoichoi announces original series ‘Manbhanjan’ on Rabindra Jayanti

‘Manbhanjan’ is an adaptation of a story by Tagore that is considered to be one of his immortal creations

The on-demand video-streaming platform for Bangla content, Hoichoi, on Wednesday evening— the eve of Rabindra Jayanti—announced it will release an original series “Manbhanjan” in remembrance of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

Yesterday was the 158th birth anniversary of the celebrated poet, writer, artist, and playwright of Bangla Literature.

“Manbhanjan” is an adaptation of a story by Tagore that is considered to be one of his immortal creations.

Renowned film-maker Abhijit Chowdhury directed this series and members of the lead cast include Sohini Sarkar, Amrita Chattopadhyay, and Anirban Bhattacharya. This will be actor Sohini’s debut on Hoichoi.

The plot concerns a housewife, Giribala, who leads a lonely life at her in-law’s home. Giribala and Gopinath had a loving and romantic relationship, when they got married, but soon, Gopinath fell out of love and started seeing a glamorous theatre actor, Labanga.

The charm of Giribala’s youth and beauty can no longer keep Gopinath in the house as her husband does not care about her at all. Frustrated with her daily life of utter loneliness, Giribala leaves her house after Gopinath elopes with Labanga.

Giribala decides to make the most of her life and comes out of the situation much braver, stronger and empowered. Will Gopinath cross paths with his wife or will they remain estranged to live “happily ever after?” That is the crux of “Manbhanjan.”

The series will start streaming on Hoichoi on May 31.
