With director Srijit Mukherji’s Gumnaami releasing next week, the buzz around its music is getting stronger. All the four patriotic songs in the film are being praised by the audience.
National Award-winning music director Indraadip Dasgupta, who has recreated the music along with the background score, said, “Srijit is presenting the film on a larger-than-life scale. I’ve composed the music keeping that in mind. The songs and music will give the audience a highly patriotic feel.”
Srijit said all these songs have been used to evoke certain emotions with the hope to create a positive feeling of patriotism among the audience. “For instance, Subhash Ji Subhash Ji, sung by Sonu Nigam for the film, was originally composed by Indians residing in East Asia to welcome Netaji to Singapore. This was a unique and unparalleled gesture in Indian history,” said Srijit.
Similarly, Kadam Kadam and Dhonodhanne Pushpe Bhora, sung by Ishan Mitra, are bound to bring alive many childhood memories of patriotism, he said. “Kadam Kadam was originally the marching song of INA, while Dhonodhanne was composed by DL Roy. They are probably the most popular patriotic songs we have been humming since our childhood,” said Srijit, adding that the fourth song, Subh Sukh Chain, was originally an INA anthem adopted from Jana Gana Mana. All the songs have been rearranged and recreated for the film.
Gumnaami’s Bengali version with English subtitles is releasing nationally on October 2. The film’s Hindi version will release nationally on October 11.
