Aparna Sen as a filmmaker is well aware of the time we are living in, and her latest directorial ‘Ghawre Baire Aaj‘, an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore‘s novel ‘Ghare Baire’ gives a fitting testimony to it. The story, earlier adapted by Satyajit Ray into a 1984 Bengali classic, follows three protagonists; one of them is loosely related to the slain journalist Gauri Lankesh.
Before it hits the theatres later this year, ‘Ghawre Baire Aaj’ is doing its festival round quite remarkably. And now to double your excitement here goes the official trailer of the film. The trailer raises an eternal question, the answer to which is blowing with the wind but nobody understands it. The film questions – in a world buffeted by political turbulence, can human emotions find a home?
The socio-political drama sees Anirban Bhattacharya, Jisshu Sengupta and Tuhina Das playing the leads. Calling ‘Ghawre Baire Aaj’ her most ‘political and outspoken’ work till date, Aparna Sen says she has tried to explore the dark side of the society.
In the film, Sandip is a childhood friend of Animesh and has become a Maoist. The friends meet after a long time and it eventually changes the course of the relationship between the three. There are also glimpses of political hostility, Sandip getting cornered and the emotional moments between Sandip and Brinda, while Animesh looks to have lost in his agenda and, at the end of the teaser has no other choice but to ask his wife whether she loves Sandip. It’s quite clear Aparna Sen doesn’t want to give away the plot of her 21st century interpretation.
