Birsa Dasgupta’s next is a romcom that revolves around the drama that every married couple goes through in their daily life. Titled Bibaho Obhijaan, it stars Rudranil Ghosh, Sohini Sarkar, Mimi Chakraborty and Ankush in the lead. “This is a story of two couples that each one of us will relate to. The drama that takes place between all married couples forms the essence of this romcom. The film shows it is love that binds them all together in the end,” said the director.
The story, script, screenplay and dialogue are penned by Rudranil. While the music is scored by Arindom Chatterjee, Suvankar Bhar is the man behind the camera.
Rudranil plays Rajat, a logical man who has a complex about his height and skin colour. He gets married to Maya (Sohini), who is illogical and glued to TV serials. Drama kicks in soon after they have an arranged marriage. Meanwhile, Rai (Mimi) is a social activist who is mostly vocal on social media. She falls in love with Anupam (Ankush) — the typical Bengali bhalo chhele from Bhawanipore. After six months of their marriage, the real madness begins. Anupam and Rajat are friends and there are some hilarious incidents throughout the film. “After getting married I’ve realised that no matter what, it is your wife who is always the boss of the house. And despite all the fights between a couple, it is their love that keeps them together. And our film is all about that,” added Birsa.
The script left Mimi in splits. “The best part about this film is that after watching it every married person will say: Oh I see this at home every day. This is my story!” she said.
The fact that Rudranil is not married helped him visualise the story and pen the script in a fair way. “I have friends who married the ones they dated. So, I am witness to the transformation that a relationship goes through. While most men feel they have to sacrifice their freedom after marriage, women think it’s just them who make all the adjustments. This is an age-old thing that still persists across all strata of society. Each couple has a formula or theory to keep their marriage on track and this film explores that,” said the actor.
The film will go on the floors from March 20 in Kolkata.
