He has been charming the lovers of Bengali cinema since time and is steadily making his mark in Bollywood and the OTT space. Tollywood actor Parambrata Chatterjee is making the right kind of noise with his latest release Tangra Blues that released on popular OTT platform Hoichoi.
Parambrata Chatterjee and Madhumita Sarcar-starrer Tangra Blues did have a theatrical release, however, steadfastly got a world premiere on Hoichoi. The app’s first-ever independent property, Tangra Blues opened up to great reviews but had to switch to OTT the soonest. In a candid tete-a-tete with leading star Parambrata, he spoke about the film premiering the OTT way, the script, working with Madhumita and much more!
In an exclusive interaction with Zoom Digital, Parambrata Chatterjee spoke about Tangra Blues releasing on OTT:
“Tangra Blues did have a theatrical release and it was doing kind of well. Unfortunately, the release of the film coincided with the second surge of Covid and hence, people stopped going to shopping malls or theatres. And I think within about 5-6 days of the release, the theatres shut down officially, so that also happened. I am glad that it had a very quick release on OTT because that was, in any case, the plan and ever since it premiered on Hoichoi, the response to it has been quite terrific.”
About his inspiration behind the film’s script, Parambrata shared:
“We did not choose the script, the subject chose us because Tangra Blues as a film or subject has been lying with us, and by us we mean three of us at the production company that we run together. We have been on this subject since 2015-16 when we first encountered these wonderful boys under the leadership of this real-life character called Sanjay Mandal, who have taught these boys to make instruments out of garbage, waste, giving them a new lease of life, away from their usual lives – crimes and other potential dangers.”
Tangra Blues marks Parambrata’s first collaboration with Madhumita Sarcar. The actor only had heap loads of praises when he asked him how was it to work with the actress:
“She is an incredibly, gifted, vivacious young girl. What happens is, we are still.. at least I consider myself from an earlier generation. We started working in the early ‘2000s, so we are a generation or two older than Madhumita. So we tend to think in a different way about the audio-visual medium. So I just feel somebody as tenacious as or somebody as beautifully talented as Madhumita.. . she is really talented I feel.”
Apart from being an A-lister in the Bengali film industry, Parambrata was also a part of Anushka Sharma-starrer Pari, Vidya Balan’s Kahaani, OTT film Bulbbul and Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi.
