It’s been more than two years that Evan Leversage from St George surrendered to an incurable brain tumour. Even though he died at the age of seven, he came to be known as ‘The Boy Who Moved Christmas’ as his hometown staged Christmas celebrations two months before it. The child, who had a limited lifespan, wanted to see Christmas one last time and his wish was granted by the natives of St George. Srijit Mukherji, who was moved by the story of Evan that he read on social media, came up with Uma, which tells a similar tale. In the film, Durga Puja is re-created for an ailing child, months before it actually arrives. The director, not stopping at just that, invited Evan’s family to be a part of his own journey. And the feelings were reciprocated. Taking to FB, the director announced on Tuesday afternoon: “Nicole Wellwood, Evan’s mother and Ashley Agar, Evan’s aunt, are here to celebrate the undying spirit of Evan, St. George and the city of Kolkata through #Uma!” The family is likely to stay for the special screening of the film.
