Kolkata, Jan 6 (PTI) Twelve years after the sensational hanging of Dhananjoy Chatterjee, convicted in a rape-murder case of 1990, director Arindam Sil is planning to make a docu-film with an aim to see the incident through a different perspective.
It was on August 24, 2004 that Dhananjoy Chatterjee, a security guard in an apartment complex in south Kolkata, was hanged after being convicted of raping and murdering an 18-year-old girl, who was home alone, on March 5, 1990.
“It is my interpretation of the barbaric incident and an attempt to pinpoint the real culprit, which may not be Dhananjoy. I went through over 3000 research papers,” Sil said.
He said that his film would be a documentary-cum- fiction and that he was still researching the gruesome incident that took place in 1990.
The director, who made a couple of successful films in Bengali, argued that the film would not draw any conclusion about the identity of the rapist-murderer, but would see the crime with different eyes including those of the wife of the hanged. PTI SUS MD JCH
