Filmmaker Dhrubo Banerjee resumed shooting for his upcoming period film Golondaaj, starring Dev Adhikari, on Tuesday. The project, which is based on the life of Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, the father of Indian football, went on the floors in early February. However, due to the pandemic-induced lockdown, everything was put on hold since the month of March.
The director shared a still from the film, featuring Adhikari, in the avatar of the pioneering sportsman — sporting a kurta and dhoti — on Twitter. In the still, a group of similarly attired boys can be seen playing football in the background. The shooting will mostly take place in Kolkata and its suburbs.
Sarbadhikari introduced India to football at the Hare School compound as a teenager in 1877. The director put in a lot of research to bring out the essence of the period the film is set in. On the other hand, Adhikari, not having been a football player, had to regularly attend practise sessions early in the morning. Sarbadhikari was also known to be a wrestler and hence, the actor had to learn this sport as well.
Golondaaj also features Anirban Bhattacharyya and Ishaa Saha. The film is slated to be released in theatres next year.
