Kolkata, March 29: On Holi, Bengali actor Dev dropped the official poster of his most-anticipated Independence Day release Golondaaj. Directed by Dhrubo Banerjee, the film is based on the life and time of Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari, who is considered the father of Indian football. The Bengali film hits the theatres on August 13.
On the field
On Holi, Dev took to social media to share the poster of Golondaaj. In the poster, the actor, who plays Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari in the Bengali biopic, is seen breaking the chains of British rule with a football.Nagendra Prasad is considered as the father of Indian football and also introduced the game to the boys. He started playing football in 1877. He was the first India to form a football club in the country. The Boys’ Club, founded by Nagendra Prasad around this time, was the first Indian initiative at football organization. Later, he formed a series of sporting clubs in Calcutta in the 1880s, one of the first being the Wellington.
Undoubtedly, Dev is excited to share the poster of his first Bengali biopic. “Honoured to have played The Father of Indian Football – Sri Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari on celluloid. My first ever Biopic. Hope this one rattles your emotions, the way he had rattled the British’s,” Dev posted.
Dev extends gratitude
In his post, Dev also extended his gratitude to the doctors, who fixed his bones, which he broke during the shooting of Golondaaj. Dev has injured his back, fractured his toe while shooting for the magum opus. He also thanked his director Dhrubo Banerjee who teamed up with Dev for the first time. And then, the film marks the return of the Bengali superstar to SVF, the production house, after almost two years. In his career, Dev’s maximum hits have been with SVF including his biggest hit, Amazon Obhijaan (2017). So, Dev also thanked SVF’s director Mahendra Soni in the post.
“Thanks to @iammony & @dhrubo_banerjee for believing in me. And grateful to all the doctors who fixed my bones every time I broke one,” Dev tweeted. Recently, the Buno Haansh actor has completed 15 years of his cinematic journey.
History revisited
For Dhrubo, who has made hit Bengali adventure thrillers like Guptodhoner Sondhane (2018) and Durgeshgorer Guptodhon (2019), working on a period sports drama Golondaaj was different. The director said the film has been in the making for two years. “A film made with blood sweat & passion. Almost 2 years in making overcoming every possible challenge and obstacle. It’s GOLONDAAJ!!! Releasing the official poster for our loving audience,” posted Dhrubo.
Golondaaj also stars Anirban
Bhattacharya, Indrasish Roy, Ishaa Saha and Srikanta Acharya. Bickram Ghosh is in-charge of the music department of the film. Anirban will be seen in the character of Bhargav, a freedom fighter who is responsible for instilling the nationalist angle in the narrative.
Ishaa essays the character of Kamalini, who married Nagendra and is one of Nagendra’s greatest support.
