‘Villain’ sees Ankush playing a tricky character with a number of grey shades for the first time in his career. His rugged avatar and complete physical transformation raised the curiosity bar long before the film’s release this Puja. Facing competition from 5 other Bengali releases the Baba Yadav directorial has received a mix reaction from the audience.
The hardcore commercial pot boilers are not working at the Bengali Box Office these days. A lot has been discussed regarding the same. So, it’s definitely a big risk for Ankush to accept a film like ‘Villain’ which is touted to be the remake of 2016 Telugu hit ‘Gentleman’. However, the popular actor insists he thoroughly enjoyed playing such a difficult character in the thriller.
“I was looking forward to a role with grey shades. This has been a trend in Bollywood also, where the lead actor essays a negative character. Several films in recent past have used one of the leads playing a positive character and the other, an antagonist. But in ‘Villain’, I play both the positive and the negative roles. It’s like all encapsulated in one character. That’s what grabbed my attention. It was a great experience working in this film. It’s a dream come true to portray a ruthless character,” said the actor.
